A good fairy village can start in the housewares aisle, long before any piece is labeled for a miniature garden.

The finds

Five wooden houses were found at Valley Thrift for $1 each and appear to be unused. A $2.99 two-tier black iron candle stand from St. Vincent de Paul may become the structure that places two or more houses at different heights.

Develop each house separately

The houses do not need identical finishes. Aquarium gravel could create a stone façade, birch half-logs could suggest a cabin, necklace pieces could become trim, and glass beads could become windows.

They may ultimately appear together as a village, but treating each house as its own small build leaves space to respond to the materials that turn up next.
